I've got skills.....

Check out my new skills...I can sit up all by myself! Mommy has been propping me up for awhile and holding my hands so that I could sit up, but over the weekend I did it all by myself. Now I'm so good that I can even balance a little. Balance is key because it means you don't fall over nearly as much. Now my only problem is figuring out how to lay down gracefully. At the moment I just get tired of sitting and then cry- it's either that, or I just fall over. It's a whole new world when you are sitting. I figured out that I have a dog and a cat in my house! I guess I never noticed them before, but now that I can sit, they come and walk by me. They are fascinating creatures! Mommy thought that a picture of my new skill didn't do it justice, so she took a video. Since the camera was rolling, I also decided to shown you my other new skill- blowing raspberries! I do it all the time- even at dinner. Mommy doesn't like it when I do it with a mouth full of oatmeal, but Morgan and I think it's pretty funny.

You can see from the video that I'm getting pretty big! Mommy is still waiting for my teeth to come in. They are taking their sweet time. Luckily, I'm not nearly as fussy anymore. I'm learning new things almost every day. I'm even learning how to feed myself. Mommy takes care of all the spoon feedings, but I learned how to eat puffs! If you aren't sure what a puff is, it's basically a Cheerio with a little bit of flavor on it. Mommy says that they have absolutely no nutritional value at all- but I LOVE PUFFS!

At first I ate them one at a time, but now I eat them by the fist full. Morgan likes to feed me puffs too. She's such a good sister. The dog is much more interested in me now too. I guess she likes puffs too.

Dorothy sleeps with the fishes.

This is Mom checking in, and yes it's true. Dorothy now sleeps with the fishes. Last weekend Morgan was upstairs with Greg and noticed that Dorothy was "stuck" to the fake plant in her fish tank. She ran downstairs and told me Dorothy was sleeping. I took one look at Greg and realized that Dorothy wasn't with us anymore. She lasted a long time if you ask me! I'm sure in the near future there will be a Dorothy 2 taking over the fish tank.

The Bathing Beauties...

It's almost summer time and guess what that means?? It's swim suit season! Mommy took me to get a new bathing suit because it was so warm this past weekend. I got to pick it out at the store. I chose a bright pink two piece! Daddy was not happy with my two piece selection- but I love it! As soon as we brought it home Mommy helped me put it on and I went to play in the sprinkler. Mommy said it was a good thing it was nice outside because she has lots of yard work to do. So while Mommy worked I played with the hose and the sprinkler. I kept trying to spray Mommy with the hose, but for some reason she wouldn't come close to me...I'll have to try harder next time.

Mommy even got Elizabeth a bathing suit! Elizabeth didn't get to play in the sprinkler, but she did lay out on the deck. Mommy made sure she stayed in the shade though. I'd rather run around in the grass- but Elizabeth was happy laying on her blankets in her bikini. Daddy didn't like Elizabeth's bathing suit either. I think he wants his girls to stay all covered up. What fun is that! Mommy said it didn't matter though because we were so cute.

I love summer and I'm glad the season is just beginning. Hopefully we will get to wear our new bathing suits more often! Elizabeth and I hope everyone has a great summer!

Mom this is embarrassing...

Mommy said I should check in and tell everyone how big I am getting. I had my 6 month check up this week and I weighed in at 18 pounds 3 ounces! And I'm 25 inches tall! I'm getting so big! The doctor said I'm growing on my own curve- I'm not sure if that means I'm chubbier then I should be or not, but Mommy says I'm perfect just the way I am. I had to get four shots while I was there and I screamed so loud! But while I was screaming the nurse noticed that I am getting two teeth. Mommy says it's no wonder I am fussy all the time and attempting to put anything I can into my mouth. So far I'm not a fan of this teething thing. I wish they would just come in already.

The doctor also said I can start eating more "solid" foods. So now I get cereal in the morning, a fruit and vegetable for lunch and then more cereal and a veggie for dinner. I also get to eat Cheerios! Mommy and Daddy tried to give me some the other night at dinner and I just looked at them. Morgan helped me eat them though my shoving then into my mouth. Aren't sisters great!

Tonight while I was taking a bath Mommy took some pictures. It was so embarrassing. Hopefully the digital files will mysteriously disappear before I'm a teenager.

Mommy's getting political

A couple of weeks ago Mommy had to take a trip to Washington DC. She left us in the hands of Daddy for 4 days! It's the longest she's been away from us- ever! Daddy get a good job though while she was away.

Since Mommy is going to be president of her state's professional landscape architecture group she had to go to Washington to learn "the ropes". While she was there they went to the hill and talked to Indiana's senators and two congressmen about climate change, the importance of planting trees in cities, and funding for historic landscapes. Mommy spent the whole day walking back and forth from building to building to meet with these people. She said it was fun, but very tiring. Her feet really hurt by the end of the day!
The other fun part of her trip was seeing the green roof on the ASLA's headquarter building. Mommy said that when they renovated the building they decided to show the world the right way to do things, so they planted the roof with various plants. The roof was planted three years ago and is finally taking off. The big mounds (or waves) in the picture were actually built to hide the mechanical units on the roof. They then built a little shelf to hold soil and rocks. The plants that were chosen love dry/rocky soils so they are perfect for the roof! There is also a nice deck built with a little table and chairs. It has a nice view of Washington DC too!

We are glad Mommy had a nice trip, but we are really glad she's home. Elizabeth and I missed her!

No peas please...

Next week is my 6 month birthday- can you believe it! Mommy can't believe how big I'm getting. I can now roll over really good. I only roll from my front to my back right now, but it keeps me from doing tummy time, which I hate. I also figured out that I have not one, but two feet! I haven't figured out how to put them into my mouth yet, but I like just grabbing them and taking my socks off. It frustrates Mommy to have to put my socks on all the time, but I think it's fun.

Last weekend was my baptism. We had a bunch of family come in and I got to meet my great aunt and uncle, and my cousin Megan too. Mommy and Daddy were proud of me because I didn't cry at all during church. Instead I just smiled at the priest while he dumped water on me. It was a big day!

My other big excitement is that I get to eat actual food now. So far I've tried peas and carrots. I don't like peas, but I love carrots! I can't wait to see what Mommy is going to let me try next- I hear fruits are good....

Just a little trim....

Guess what! I got my first haircut today. Mommy and Daddy finally decided to get my hair trimmed so that it was all nice and even in the back. I guess it was time, I am almost three you know. Mommy took me to Cookie Cutters- a place just for kids. They had a bunch of toys to play with, and I got to pick out a movie to watch while I got my hair cut. I picked Elmo- Elmo's my favorite. I got to sit on a horse chair and I did okay for a minute. Once the stylist got my hair wet and started combing my hair I freaked! I cried the whole time, and just wanted to be held by Mommy. Luckily for me, it was all over in about 5 minutes. Now my hair is beautiful- and all even.

Spring has finally arrived in Indianapolis, and boy is it nice. I finally get to play outside again. Mommy took some pictures of me with my friend Miles. Miles is a little younger then me, so I show him all the fun stuff that there is to play with outside. We had a great time when he came over a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully he can come over again and we can play some more.

Not much else is happening with me. I'm getting a lot bigger and am learning new things everyday. My new favorite saying is "Oh my gosh!"- Mommy isn't sure where I learned this, but she guesses it was daycare. I'm almost the oldest kid at daycare now. Only one boy is older then me, and he and I get in trouble a lot. This summer I will get to go to preschool! I'll have to leave Elizabeth, but I'm sure she will be okay. I hope everyone is having a good spring!
